We live at the border

Some time the notion "border" didn’t exist. There were only the territories belonging to different peoples, and these peoples could communicate easily with each other. Then owing to numerous wars it began to fence these territories with a purpose of safety of population. But not one border is capable to prevent a friendship of peoples. If the countries support good relations: economic, political, good will – so the border is only a conventional line dividing the territories, but not the people …
I live in Belarus, someone - in the Ukraine, someone - in Poland. We all are Slavs, we all are one people living on different territories and speaking in different languages. But it’s not a problem; in fact even the German and the Chinese will understand each other. The language barrier was never and will not be a hindrance. And it is much easier for us, as all Slavs identical mentality have.
I don’t think that our relations with Poland at present the best are, as we, Belarusians can not enter the territory of Poland without problems. There is a visa procedure. We, inhabitants of Brest, people living in four or five kilometers from Poland, can not go every week to visit our friends or relatives, and Poles cannot visit us.
Borders should be conventional, aerial, invisible …After all, the border is an original «brake pedal» in the development of our relations. Belarus is the country where good people live, Poland as well. Will good people to harm each other? Will a brother to pain a brother? No … Then the border is unnecessary thing in our life. The border should be only a line on our planet the Earth, no more.

«Overcoming the borders: Internet as an intimacy factor for pupils and youth from border regions of Belarus and Poland» - a mini-project won at competition, organized by the Program of Belarus Support by the Federal government of Germany (FpB - Forderprogramm Belarus).
Within the framework of the project questioning among pupils has been lead with the purpose of study of a schoolboy’s notion about Europe, the European Community, Poland.
107 pupils of senior classes of the secondary school №9 Brest have taken part in questioning.
On a question, whether the border a source of an anxiety and uneasiness is, the following answers are received:

  • 80 % of examined have answered negatively;
  • ?20 % of examined were difficulty in an answer.

More than half of participants of the questioning are sure, Belarusian children don’t differ from Polish children.
More than 75 % of examined characterized relations between peoples of Poland and Belarus as friendly.
In spite of the fact that 2/3 participants of examined visit Poland mainly with the tourist purposes, an absolute majority considers, that Belarus should expand cooperation with all countries of the European Union.
Also the absolute majority of the examined senior pupils have expressed a readiness to become participants of international educational projects.
